But in the years they’ve known one another, she’s never had the nerve to tell him she’s interested, and why would a rich, handsome hotelier, a member of the Castillo family, be interested in a woman who rarely hangs around for more than a day or two before flying off to the wilds of Alaska’s interior.. It will take a heaping dose of Christmas magic—or maybe Madame Eve’s own brand—to make this one work out!

You’re my date.”

“Only because I lost a bet.” She tossed her head and her long braid bobbed over her shoulder, with a jingle. A tiny bell on the hair tie at the bottom twinkled in the light. Looked like she did have a little Christmas spirit. He stored the knowledge away in case he could use it to his advantage. He only hoped he wouldn’t mistake a friendly gesture for an opening and ruin what they did have. “And I suppose it includes wearing that dress I spotted in the closet.”

“And the shoes.”

He stood back and watched as she left the room, her free stride making his heart lift. Beautiful, smart, and far too independent to want to settle down with a hotel manager, even if he was one of the very successful Castillos…a first cousin to Jackson and Jagger, raised in their home as a brother. His parents had insisted he have an American education and life, despite their own reluctance to leave Cuba. Funny he’d end up at the northernmost of the Castillo resorts—and every bit as much in love with its magnificent environs as his parents were with their island home.

But Kathryn was not impressed by status or money. She treated him as a friend and he tried hard to make that enough.

“Are you coming or what?” Her voice floated back to him and he shook himself and followed. No use fighting what couldn’t be changed; he would settle for watching his friend strut toward the elevator, her slim form and swaying hips making even her faded flying clothes sexy.

Did platonic buddies run their fingers through one another’s hair? Did they stroke long, silky waves back to press lips to the satin skin under their friend’s delicately curved ear? Will she wear her hair down tonight? His steps slowed as he came up behind her, hands clenched at his sides to keep from finding out what would happen if he grasped her waist and pulled her back against him.

And it’s in print! I have a number of stories out, fourteen to be exact, and at least a couple are scheduled to be in print down the line but The More the Merrier, Decadent Publishing’s Christmas menage anthology is the first time one of them has actually come out in a print book and been in my hot little hands. I cried…yes, I’m that wussy. Not that all the rest aren’t beloved, but something about seeing my own words on the page of one of my most favorite things in the world is very special. I wonder if sleeping with it under my pillow is good luck… Happy Black Friday!

My story is Avalon for Christmas. This is my very first menage and it was like a cookie…I want more! The idea of three people who belong together, who answer one another’s needs AND light one another’s fire appeals to me. Why not? It might be harder, but why couldn’t they make it work. So…I asked to be included in this anthology and was told great, but since I’d asked so late I had very limited time to write it.

Noooo problem! I thought.

At some point I realized I’d never written one before. And my minor in psychology really came into play as I considered all the possible ways these three could make each other blissfully happy or utterly miserable. Fortunately, my characters have minds of their own and had no problem showing me how they cared for one another, what they found mouth-watering about each other and what they intended to do about that.

In the end, it was about five minutes before my deadline when I hit send, but I hope I captured what my trio of happy island holidaymakers wanted me to say. The story will be released as a separate eBook on November 25th…or you could pick up the print (yes!!! Housecleaning is not for sissies

You might think this is a picture of a witch about to terrorize Oz, but it’s the closest I can find to my expression at realizing my plans for having an immaculate house…now that I work from home have fallen through. Turns out that this big plus–one my husband was thrilled to hear about–ain’t happening. I work twice the hours I did at my day job and the folks around here are lucky that I actually stop to cook dinner. Other than that, I do just enough to keep the dust bunnies from forming a gang and eating the cats.

But the holidays are coming, and I am inspired today! I worked 18 hours yesterday so I can be free to spend the day cleaning! Well, I was inspired yesterday morning when I thought of it. And last night when I shut the computer off at 12:30a.m. Ok, I worked 181/2 hours.

This morning I’m far less inspired but I did promise myself. I think the dog is getting asthma from dust. So…I have begun, magic broom and machete at the ready! I will have to let you know how it goes, but I suspect the bunnies know I’m coming, so if I don’t report in anywhere by the end of the day send help!

Happy Mother’s Day – From a non-mom

I am not a mom. That said, I will take credit for being an aunt to many. These guys are most, but not all of them. I have Ashley and Keri in Missouri, Gary and Zack in Denver, and my lovely grown-up niece, Nicole who is mom to one of the hoodlums in this innocent Christmas image. I love every one of them with every fiber of my being, but I admire their moms more than words can say. I visit, play, tell stories and lend support on occasion, but their moms are there morning, noon and night. And yeah, they’re adorable, but–shock of all shocks–they are not perfect. They have their quirks and oddities, one is a worrier, another plans to be scientiest when he grows up and gets a gleam in his eye tht scares me. Those babies make me ever so thankful to their moms for everything they do for them to make them the fantastic people they are.

To all you moms out there, have a wonderful mother’s day and you can’t hear it often enough, thank you!

The Vampire’s Bard

While reading old vampire tales I came across an Irish legend, the story of Dearg-Due, the Red Bloodsucker. As the legend goes, she killed was forced to give up a peasant lover to marry her father’s choice. And…since those things never go well, the whole thing ended in tragedy.

Well, in my retelling, it wasn’t actually a crass peasant boy…but a lovely and cultured travelling bard, who happened to be a woman.

The tragedy remains the same, dead husband, dead bard, dead, well, undead Dearg. With a prophesy under her belt, she waits for her love to come again. Finally her travels take her to Hollywood, California and the fabulous Sunset Strip.
