Two years ago when Kate suggested I write a book for the 1Night Stand series, I wanted to set the story in Seoul, South Korea. I’d written Desire in Any Language about a college graduate who studies abroad in Korea, and readers loved the setting.
So when it came time to plan this one-night love affair in the land of Samsung, Mash, and K-pop, I sat down with Kate to work out the details. You see, there are strict rules in writing for this series, and #EvilMistressKate has a heavy hand. She’s even threatened taking my wooden spoon away for misbehavior! (I still have nightmares. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to make sure my beloved spoon is still with me.)
The first problem occurred with the use of “Madame” in Madame Eve’s name. In Korean context, “Madame” sounded unnatural and perhaps disrespectful. “She’s Madame Eve,” Kate replied, and I mulled over the problem for months until a brainwave hit. Of course! By attaching the honorific “-nim” at the end of Madame Eve’s title, I could indicate respect and stay true to Madame Eve’s character. Madame Eve became Madame Eve-nim, and poor confused Indigo wondered why Madame was named after the evening.
The second problem, however, was more serious. I originally chose Seoul Searching for my title. After discussing with readers and playing around with various titles, I hit upon a great, fun title:
Kimchi with a Side of Spanking
Fun, sassy, and indicative of kimchi’s central place in the story. Hyunkyung feeds Indigo the spicy, fermented cabbage, and the food symbolizes the new world offered. Kimchi made for a great title! I loved it! It was brilliant!
“No,” said #EvilMistressKate.
“But…” My chin quivered. A tear may have fallen. I’d already had to conduct a memorial service after my evil editor slashed one of my favorite lines. I had to give up the title, too?
“No,” replied the inexorable #EvilMistressKate. “There is nothing sexy about cabbage.”
The book turned into Seoul Spankings, and once I revealed the cover (by the talented Fiona Jayde), I basked in praise for the artwork. I couldn’t help teasing Kate.
“And you said cabbage wasn’t sexy!”
“That ain’t no cabbage on the cover!”
Maybe. Smart people don’t argue with Our Lady of Kate. (Don’t take my spoon away. Please.)
I humbly submit for your consideration a small excerpt from Seoul Spankings in which cabbage IS sexy. If you agree, please tell Kate. But let me run to safety first.
“Ah,” she [Hyunkyung] said, and she cupped her left hand underneath the piece of kimchi wrapped around a bit of meat.
Ah must be a command to open my mouth. How else could she use that order? Stop it, Indi!
I wrinkled my nose but obeyed, and she placed the salty-sour package onto my tongue. I expected to wince at the sharp, acidic spice, but grilling had softened the kimchi into pleasant warmth. Paired with fresh meat, it offered the perfect combination. Without thinking, I swallowed and opened my mouth for another taste.
Hyunkyung laughed when she saw it. “No more turning your nose up at good food,” she said with satisfaction.
Broken-hearted when her live-in boyfriend impregnates her best frenemy, Indigo Adams accepts a one-way ticket to Seoul, South Korea, and a challenge from her Great-Aunt Matilda: Forget that boy. Go and make something of yourself.
Bruised from an international public relations nightmare as the new heir to the multi-billion-dollar Han Incorporated, Hyunkyung Han seeks positive publicity in the form of a wedding. She consults with Madame Eve to find a nice, well-behaved Korean American with bilingual and bicultural skills.
Instead, Madame Eve sends Indi, a naïve philosophy major graduate working for minimum wage at the local pub. Enraged to find Indi can’t speak one word of Korean, Hyunkyung orders her sent home on the next plane to Spillville, Iowa.
Then Hyunkyung shakes Indi’s hand, and the sparks fly. With all of her professional responsibilities, how can Hyunkyung allow herself to fall for the wrong woman? How can Indi feel attraction for a woman who despises her?
Seoul Spankings offers a light-hearted romp through the perils and joys of navigating an intercultural romance. Certain to delight all fans of a happily ever after with a kinky twist.

“Thank you for coming.” Roy shook another man’s hand while she tried to hold focus and nod and listen to the kind words of Melinda and Shane’s friends and neighbors. The church steps were filled with people dressed in somber clothing, each introducing him or herself and offering anything they might need during their stay in Corbin’s Bend.
“And if you need someone to watch Ben while you put things in order….” The middle aged woman smiled down at the little boy holding Roy’s hand. “He and I are old friends, right Benny?”
He kept his gaze fixed on the ground and didn’t answer. In fact, hadn’t spoken a word since their arrival. Shock, the pediatrician in Denver said. To be expected when a child lost both parents so suddenly. Nothing to worry about. Just try to keep things as normal as possible for him.
Like…. Don’t move him to the city right away. Give him a little time to adjust.
And Roy, helpful as always, informed the doctor that they would stay until Ben spoke, however long that took.
She shifted from one foot to another. What was the purpose of standing here talking to complete strangers who she would never see again? Sure, she’d accepted her sister and brother-in law’s funeral arrangements. Not that there’s been a choice. By the time they arrived, the very efficient attorney had everything in place and the service scheduled. Everything as laid out in their will. All she had to do for her only living relative….
She swallowed the tears that threatened. Melinda was no longer a living relative, but the little redheaded boy who stood in silence was. And her every instinct insisted she get him out of the backwater town and home to the city where he could get therapy. And preschool. The child was nearly four and had never been enrolled in anything.
She’d need to get started right away if he stood a chance of getting into a good school. Most of her co-workers had their kids started much younger than Ben was. And a nanny. Interviewing for a nanny would take time. They had only taken a one week leave and they’d already been in Corbin’s Bend for a day. Surely a small child couldn’t stay silent much longer. She’d get her PA on the phone and have her line up some interviews with nannies and preschools. After she determined which were the best agencies and institutions.
“Ben, we’re going out to lunch now. Would you like that?” Come on, nephew, talk to me. Auntie needs to get back to the city.
He stared up at her with her sister’s sea-green eyes. Her own eyes, but wide and without a trace of guile or the shadows underneath that greeted her in the mirror each morning. A young woman paused in front of them and dropped to her knees. Freiya, the kindergarten teacher who’d stayed with Ben until their arrival the night before.
“Hi, Benny, you doing okay?” She offered him a soft smile and patted his cheek. “Of course you are. You’re a big boy.” Standing again, she brushed at her skirt and nodded. “He’ll be okay. He just needs a little time to adjust.”
Roy released Ben’s hand and shook the teacher’s. “Yes, that’s what he needs. And we’ll give him as much as necessary. Family comes first, after all.”
Teri cringed inside. Yes, she’d agreed to give the child time, but how much would it require? And how long would it take the local authorities to find the culprit who’d left her sister and Shane to die at the side of the road?
“I’m new here, too, you know, but it already feels like home.” Freiya rested her other hand on top of their joined ones then released him. “You’re good people and we’re all so glad you’re here. Just be sure to approach the Board for temporary residency if you’re here longer than a week.”
What? “We need permission to stay in the home my sister and her husband owned?”
“They didn’t own the unit, per se. None of us do…it’s a co-op. Melinda never explained that to you?”
“No, she certainly did not.” Teri’s blood pressure rose, and her voice. What more complications could arise that would take up their precious time. “So some board of strangers has to decide if we are allowed to stay long enough for my nephew to recover his voice after being orphaned? I cannot believe what I am hearing.” She listened to herself as if from a distance, wishing, but unable to stop herself. What kind of an ass shrieked at near-strangers at her only sister’s funeral. But somehow it kept the sobs at bay, the sense of loss under control.
“Now, now, what’s going on here?” The priest, Father…Father Henry, who had conducted the archaic ritual over the combined ashes joined them. “Is everything all right? Mrs. Sims, Teri, you are not yourself.” He cast her a glance and then spoke to Roy. “Perhaps you should take your wife home and let her rest. She’s undergone a huge loss.”
The condescension sent her temper the rest of the way out of control. “Speak to me if you would. I do not need to rest. What I need is to go to my home in the city and get back to work. Every day I am away could cost me clients. They depend on me for their financial well-being.” To her shame her shrillness wouldn’t stop until she clamped a hand over her mouth. God, would this horrible day never end?
Hi to everyone back at the office!
I just wanted to take a moment and send a thanks for your kind wishes for our new life here in beautiful Corbin’s Bend, Colorado. A very …unusual community. The summer days are long and lazy but soon Ben will be in pre-school and I will be working hard again. Just not in the City with you.
I am doing my best to fit in, but some days are harder than others. After all, a family can only eat sandwiches and cereal for dinner so many nights before I start to worry about their health. At least we can grill outside in this beautiful weather and I’ve been practicing a few other things, like rice. Did you know that’s hard?
And I miss sushi.
Don’t tell any clients but I’m like as not in pajamas until late morning…a real benefit of working from home. Roy surprised me with a pair of red silk PJs that makes me feel glamorous…anyway TMI about the pajamas. Just picture me in a suit.
I will be flying back to New York next month for some meetings and I will be so glad to see you all! I guarantee you I will be in a suit then.
I just heard a loud “Oops” from the bathroom and I need to rush off and see what Ben has gotten into now. The little imp has an endless curiosity. And he’s smarter than me.
But don’t worry, I’ve got my clients under control. I’m not completely domesticated yet.

Of course Corbin’s Bend is a spanking community, but also one of loving couples who aren’t afraid to indulge in pleasure…so, as promised, here’s Teri and Roy, peek in but sshhh, they’re busy!
They were worth fighting for. But he couldn’t do it unless they had some time together. More than a stolen hour, which often ended with either an argument or a pair of exhausted people asleep before they even got undressed. Dammit, they needed the two weeks they’d scheduled.
But even if she refused, he’d use the evening to make a lasting memory. Grasping her hips, he dragged her and the heap of pillows closer to the edge of the bed and lifted her rump higher, exposing her swollen pussy. A droplet of moisture clung to her thigh and he bent to lap it up. Heat burned his cheek from her well-spanked leg and he pressed his lips to the handprint, cherishing his mark on her skin.
Teri moaned and, anxious to amp up the mood, he buried his face in her cunt, licking and sucking and drinking in her sweetness. How long had it been since he’d eaten her out? Her thrashing fed his passion and he rested a hand on her butt cheek, where raised prints marked her. His handprints. He’d love to spank a little more, but he didn’t want to cause her any harm.
Maybe on their vacation. He could bring along a few things and add to the fun. A hair brush, wooden spoon…his cock jerked.
He lifted his face, smiling when she groaned in protest
“Sweetheart,” he announced, “we are going on our trip.”
“No, I…oh, God.”
He sucked on her clit, holding it between his teeth with just enough pressure to send her to the moon and back. Teri bucked against him and he stopped again. “Wrong answer.” Pinning her knees to the mattress, Roy held her in place, to give her time to think. “Well?”
He licked her, from front to back, and added a soft slap to her backside.
He tweaked her clit with two fingers and applied pressure. “Teri, this is an important decision. I suggest you think carefully because I won’t ask again.” Lifting his hand, he waited.
“You aren’t playing fair.” She panted and reached back, pushing at his head, but he held firm. Her musk drove him mad, made it crazy difficult to hold still, but he played for life. For their life together. “Okay, fine. I will make it work. If it’s so important to you.”
Yesterday if you caught my post over on Renee Rose’s blog, you got to know Logan. (If you missed it, you can find the link here.) Today I am introducing you to our other hero Christian. And don’t forget to read all the way through…there is a giveaway you can enter for gift certificates or books!
Christian is twenty-six, just returned home from serving in the military where he was almost murdered for being gay. Scarred from the grenade that exploded near his barracks and with a severe loss of most of the use of his left leg, he never expects to be happy again. And then he meets Logan who makes him laugh, feel joy, and introduces him to things he never expected. Falling in love with Logan ended up being the easiest thing possible for him. Finding out that Logan loved to spank? The fulfillment of a fantasy he had never revealed to anyone before.
In this snippet, Christian and Logan are on their second date and Christian has initiated their kiss.
This was nothing like kissing girls. Kissing Kelli paled in comparison to kissing this strong man. Usually he had to be the one who initiated a French kiss and Kelli accepted it, but never seemed to enjoy it. Logan seemed to enjoy taking control, but when Christian elected to put up a little resistance by using his tongue to stop Logan from entering his mouth too far, the most amazing sound came out of his chest. It was a deep rumble that made Christian’s cock so hard he wished he could unzip his pants and let it out.
The sound broke all resistance and Christian stopped trying. As his date’s tongue investigated every inch of his mouth, he found himself running his fingers through Logan’s hair. It was so soft and thick. He hoped he never cut it. Logan’s left hand still held the back of his neck while his tongue plundered Christian’s mouth, but his right hand began to stroke down Christian’s chest until it covered his cock, which was straining to be released.
“Fuck,” Logan moaned, pulling his mouth away. “Can I help?” he asked huskily, rubbing lightly over the bulge.

If it weren’t for Logan’s support, he might fold; but with the love of one amazing man, Christian finds that living his life rather than just existing is as natural as breathing.
For Thianna D, reading and writing are as important as breathing and far more important than math or science. A storyteller from the time she could speak, she was always making up characters as a kid. As a teenager that turned to sci-fi and fantasy, as an adult to romance. It wasn’t until her fourth decade that she began writing erotic scenes within her stories.
Writing M/M came naturally to her; she wrote her first tale before ever having read one. “There is something about the amazing dynamic between two strong men falling in love and defeating anything thrown at them.” While she had written several BDSM stories involving men, As Natural As Breathing was the first full-length novel involving domestic discipline.

Just a little something to wake you up…
Paul flipped onto his stomach on the cushioned lounge. Music from the poolside bar filtered to where he sunned himself on the private terrace outside his room. Another hour remained before he was due at the end of the dock for transport to his 1Night Stand date. Arriving a day early had given him a chance to relax so he wouldn’t be exhausted, but the time had dragged.
Who would the famous matchmaker, Madame Eve, send him for his wonderful night? He’d indicated a preference for dark hair, dark eyes, and a muscular stature. His growing attraction for Rex made it impossible to deny he could find a man attractive. Fuck-worthy even.
He’d arranged a date with a Rex look-alike in hopes he could get him out of his system. See if he even liked being with a man. But the pressure around the house had grown until he needed to do something to blow off steam.
Even Andie, their other best friend from forever, didn’t hang around as often. She came over, cooked for them, and bailed. Which kind of sucked because he lusted after her, too. I’m a really fucked up friend. One day the two people he cared for most in the world would realize they should be together. Honorable, protective Rex would take care of Andie and they would be a family.
He would be the guy who came over for Thanksgiving. Uncle Paul to their kids. Hiding his feelings forever, behind his patented clowning. God. He pushed up on his forearms and sat on the edge of the lounge, head in his hands. Great pity party. But he knew he was right. So there he was, on the date of a lifetime.
About to have sex with some strange guy. The fact that the date had been set up on some offshore island, where they wouldn’t have any contact with the outside world for a full twenty-four hours, made it that much worse.
Would he even be able to get it up? The only man who’d ever made him hard was his best friend. Forcing back the despair that turned his limbs to lead, he headed for the shower. If he couldn’t expunge Rex from his system, he’d have to go home and admit his feelings. Then move. Far away. Maybe he could get a transfer to Alaska.
And leave the door open for Rex and Andie to finally get together. As it should be. As they would have by now if he wasn’t such a selfish bastard. Rex would never make a move as long as Paul hung around.
I just received a notice that it has moved up to #30…and I am so thrilled! I hope you’ll have a chance to read Two Men and tell me what you think of the story. The AllRomance Ebooks buy link is here.
Paul lifted his duffel then stared at the pink sand beach before him. “So I just wade on in?”
“Yes,” the blonde said, sliding into the water and sloshing in their direction. When she arrived at their side, the water hit her lower thighs. At his height it wouldn’t even hit his knees. “If Donny beaches the taxi, it’s a lot harder to get going again than just letting you off here. Is that okay?” She reached for the hand the pilot offered and hopped onto the deck.
“Sure, no problem.” He kicked off his deck shoes, set his bag down, and dropped in, then grabbed his things and faced shore. “But where do I go when I get on land?”
“Just head straight up the beach to the path. You can’t miss it…there’s one building on the whole island.”
He returned their waves and started toward the date that would change his life. I can’t believe I’ve committed to having sex with a man. He would find out whether that was possible. Whether he could approach Rex when he got home rather than just hint. I’ve had a crush on you for years. Want to fool around? Couldn’t sound lamer. But if this one-night stand didn’t get him out of his system, he would do it. Rex would either be horrified and throw him out on his ass or assume he made another one of his jokes.
But he’d have to be clear as the sea around the island. Provided he could follow through. And since all his previous experiences were with women, he didn’t know for sure.
He had one reason to believe Rex might be interested, and it wasn’t much to go on. How long had he watched him jack off on the couch? Hopefully all the way to the end.
Here’s a taste: “I need to ask you something first.”
His brow furrowed, but he shrugged. “Okay.”
“Does Madame Eve know the location of your secret place?” Out there in the dark, with the sprinkle of stars to light the black velvet night, the reality of proceeding blindfolded into the desert with a stranger, no matter how attractive, seemed dangerous. If the answer was no, she would ask him to turn the car around and hope she wasn’t already too late.
“Yes,” he said, in a low voice. “She insisted.” When she still clutched his arm, he smiled. “I understand caution, let me show you something.” Lukas reached over her to the center console. So close, his warmth and the clean scent of soap went to her head. Hang on, Jane. Even if he is the cutest guy you’ve ever met, and smells so good.
He retrieved his cell phone and clicked to a text message. “Look at this.”
I have confirmed the location of your date and we can schedule your evening. I hope you understand the safety of my clients is paramount, yours as well as Ms. Summers. Thank you for your cooperation. M.E.
Reassured, Jane faced away from him. “Do it, then.” She closed her eyes and tried not to flinch as the soft cloth covered her face. It tightened and then his hands dropped to her shoulders.
“Okay?” His fingers rested on her collarbones, inches from her breasts. Her eyes strained, but the several folds prevented the least bit of starlight from entering.
“I can’t see a thing.” But she could still feel his touch moving down her arms, past her short sleeves, and onto bare skin. The desert wind soughed; her heart thumped in her ears. Hyperaware of the man behind her, she waited to see what he would do next.
Yesterday I was racing through a few errands. Post office to mail off a couple of contest winner goodies, bank, grocery store…panicked to get home and try to whip through the impossible to complete list of tasks realated to my awesome and wonderful dream job.
I wanted to be a writer since at least 7th grade. And I’ve been reading and loving books since I was 4. All of a sudden at the grand old age of 53 I am almost two years into the best job I could imaagine…and almost three years published. I roll out of bed and land at work with a cup of fresh-brewed Sumatra and my slipper-clad feet up on the desk. I never ever dreamed I would be able to do this…at least before official retirement age. Yet…I have managed to add as much stress to this career as I did to the one I gladly left behind.
Why? It’s not because I am desperate for money. Although I don’t make as much as I did, my husband has a good job and is completely supportive of my endeavor. We aren’t rich but we certainly have enough for our needs. I was told never to expect to make a living in the book world of editing and writing…well, that person was a pessimist. I think it’s because I spent over 30 years on the hamster wheel and only thought I allowed myself off. That is a heck of a lot of training. Hi, I’m Kate and (no shock to those of you who know me) I am a workaholic. I took 2 days off in 2 years.I suspect with a little less nuttiness and a little more down time I will get more done anyway!
We shall see…I suspect it’s more of an attitude adjustment than anything and a little prioritizing. After all, I love writing better than chocolate but I think I’ve been approaching my new fun life like a rat fresh from the rat race and as Diane Keaton says in my favorite movie ever, Baby Boom…I think the rat race is going to have to do with one less rat. It’s not my job that’s the problem, it’s my attitude! And Mr. Marks in Spanking Ms. Whitman would know just what to do about this.
It’s always exciting to have a new release and this is my first in the Decadent Publishing series: The Edge. Sexy stories one and all, I hope mine will be a hit, too!
This is the best Christmas list of books I’ve found so far! http://jennajaxon.wordpress.com/2011/12/12/12-books-of-christmas/
